Author of Deus.exe Machina
J. August Bell
J. August Bell is a Science Fiction and Fantasy author whose work explores what happens when flawed people get thrown into situations bigger than themselves — whether it’s situations beyond their control or the consequences of their own actions.
When not struggling over her next chapter, J. August Bell maintains a small hobby farm in the mountains of Southern California, where the land is dry (and occasionally on fire) and the work never ends. She shares the farmstead with her husband, three cats, four dogs, five sheep and untold numbers of chickens… or if you’re with zoning enforcement, then exactly twenty-five chickens. Honestly, I never count them, and you shouldn’t either. I swear, I do not have a chicken problem.
If there’s any time left after writing and farm chores, she’s probably crashed on the couch re-watching one of her favorite TV shows so she can fall down an Internet rabbit hole without having to rewind to figure out what just happened.
Her current work, Deus.exe Machina, an ongoing web-serial available on Royalroad.com, follows the unfolding saga of Piper Corbin as she navigates her new afterlife in a world run by feuding ancient gods and a malfunctioning game system.
Expect stories with messy protagonists that wrestle with hard decisions and moral dilemmas and don’t always make the best choices, interesting worlds both supernatural and futuristic— occasionally both at the same time.
Or sometimes just expect a cozy fantasy with flying castles, I swing both ways.
